Rowing & SCulling for Fitness

What Are Tanks?

Rowing tanks are indoor facilities that simulate the experience of rowing a boat on open water. Modern tanks move the water past the rowers, simulating the feel of rowing a boat through open water. Rowing tanks are primarily used for off-season rowing, muscle specific conditioning and technique training, or simply when bad weather does not allow for open water training.

Classes and Sessions

Rowing is a full-body workout that engages all of your major muscle groups, helping you build muscle mass and strengthen your upper body, lower body, and core. You can start seeing benefits from rowing in as little as 10–15 minutes per day. Each workout produces maximum results by engaging over 86% of your body's muscles (legs, core, arms, back), delivering the perfect balance of aerobic endurance and muscular strength all in one workout.

The Foundry, Cleveland’s Community Rowing Center, is proud to offer rowing experiences for participants at multiple levels.  Our world- class Tank House, the only in the state of Ohio, is the cornerstone of our high-performance rowing training center helping to forge athletes and provide a climate controlled space to fall in love with rowing.

LEARN to ROW: Beginner Rowing for Fitness

Rowing can be an excellent addition to any workout routine or the foundation for a new routine. This low-impact, full-body workout builds strength and stamina while reducing stress. However, everyone needs a base line understanding of the equipment used and the proper execution of the parts of the stroke.  This baseline understanding of body motion will allow participants to perform the activity safely to minimize the potential for injury and maximize results in a rowing workout.

Beginner Rowing for Fitness introduces the participant to the equipment used in rowing and breaks down the parts of a proper stroke of sweep rowing.  This class will teach you proper use of oars, riggers, seats, and slides so that participants can personalize their set up to maximize benefits.  Participants will also learn the row stroke that is divided into four phases: Catch, Drive, Finish and Recovery.  This class is a prerequisite experience for all novice rowers looking to enroll in higher level classes.  Instruction is delivered in two one hour sessions in consecutive weeks.
