OBEC
The Ohio boating education course (OBEC) covers Ohio and Federal boating laws that reduce loss and injury due to boating-related accidents. The course is designed to educate boaters on the rules of the road and buoy systems, risk management, basic safety practices and survival in emergencies. At the conclusion of the course, participants demonstrate knowledge gained by completing the OBEC exam. A passing score on this exam fulfills the Ohio mandatory boater education law requirements. Boaters born on or after January 1, 1982, must pass a boater safety course and carry a boater education card to legally operate boats with motors of more than 10 horsepower. Attendees must attend both sessions
